Yap Sandiego Ancestral House – Cebu

The Yap-Sandiego Ancestral House is one of the oldest houses in The Philippines. The house is simply amazing and has lasted the test of time made from just wood, clay and coral stones. The coral stones were glued together with egg whites. It was built during the late 17th Century by Chinese merchants residing in Parian (Cebu). It is hard to believe that more than 300 years later 95% of house’s roof and walls are original.

The house was originally the home of Don Juan Yap and Maria Florido with their siblings Maria, Eleuterro and Consolacion. The eldest daughter Maria Yap later married Don Mariano Sandiego. At present this ancestral house is in the custody of Mr and Mrs Val Sandiego and has been converted to a museum.

The house showcases some old and new artworks, life size statues (especially of the Sto. Niño) , vintage furniture, antiques and century-old treasures.
